Just Thinking To Myself

Just thinking to myself. What if you printed your photos an no one ever saw them? That would be a shame...  Well, I just want to say thanks for tuning in to my email/blog. I feel pretty lucky to have you guys checking out my images, and in response to my last post, two "Ultimate Weapon" framed prints went to collectors!

Now for a shameless plug. I've added quite a few new images throughout my photo site, and if you haven't been there recently, you should check it out. If there is something you like, you can order it off the site with or without mats and frames, or contact me directly. The link:

Let me know if you find something that you gotta have, and don't forget to forward this email to your other half for birthday ideas!

"The Can-Am Killer"

Driven by Mark Donohue, the 1500bhp, turbocharged flat 12 powered 917-30 not only claimed the Ca-Am championship but achieved a closed-course speed record of 221.120mph at Talladega. Winning all but one race in the series, the car was nicknamed 'The Can-Am Killer'. Six were built, only three raced - 1974 rule changes saw to that.

The "1973 917/30 Can-Am Spyder" is framed and ready to hang for you enjoyment. The image size is 8"x 12" printed on metallic photo paper, matted in a 12"x 16" quality wood frame. Signed and called "Ultimate Weapon." I only have one of these ready to go, so don't miss out. It's $125.00 including shipping in the US. What a deal!

Some of you are below. Thank you! I do wish I would have had more time to talk with each of you, but sometimes it was like a feeding frenzy in my booth.

Mission Federal ArtWalk

How time flies! It doesn't seem like a year ago I was set up in San Diego's Little Italy doing ArtWalk. However, this year is special to me. I was chosen to be one of eight "Featured Artists" out of 350 artist participating!  I'll be there with my fine art automotive images at the southwest corner on India St. and Cedar St. My booth is 318 on Cedar St. just across the street from the Burger Lounge, how convenient!

I hope you can join me for the 34th annual Mission Federal ArtWalk, San Diego's premier arts and culture event. It's next weekend, free and covers 17 blocks with the two day festival with painting, sculpture, glass work, jewelry and of course photography. The times are 11:00 to 6:00pm both days.

Sometimes You Just Need To Come Back

Mercedes Benz has never been one to follow the crowd. Yes, wide-hipped like many on the road today, but stylist curves that say, victory over the commonplace...

I shot this concept several years ago, but only recently came back to finish the image to share with you. I hope you enjoy. And yes I can print one just for you. You can find it on my site at:  or wall size at GarageGraphics at:

Check out Garage Style Magazine

Thought I would share this info about a cool magazine with you guys. What got me thinking about this was, I delivered a large double float on metal to the owner/publisher of "Garage Style Magazine." He had seen "Cafe 11" up in Monterey last year at "Automoblia Monterey" held at the Embassy Suites in my booth. The way Don tells it, "One of his favorite things to do is collect signs and art for his man cave and office. When he first laid eyes on the print-on-metal he fell quickly and irrevocably in love." Like a lot of collectors, months would go by, but he kept thinking, I would love to have that piece for my office. Finally we touched base again and shook hands over email. I ended up delivering the piece to him at the "Gallery of Speed" in Laguna Beach.

As I started, if you have not seen or subscribed to "Garage Style Magazine"'s very cool! If you want to check one out, I believe Barnes and Noble carry it in their magazine racks. They do a big spread on Monterey car week covering events like Pebble Beach. Oh, they also do private garage tours at the start of the week. It's pretty darn cool! So check one out guys, and share this post with your other car buddies that may want to see it too! I think you'll like it!

Gallery of Speed Fine Art

It's been a busy time, I've been out doing some commission shots as well as getting art together for a gallery in Laguna Beach. That's right, I'm excited to announce that I'm now being represented by "Gallery of Speed Fine Art" located in that sea side town. It's a gallery dedicated to all things that relate to speed with very cool watercolors, paintings in oil, automotive dioramas, and of course photography. Only original art, not reproductions. As you may know, I've been in a gallery in Carmel the past two summers, now it's closer to home! And speaking about close to home, here in San Diego, I've been chosen as one of eight "Featured Artists" for San Diego's ArtWalk in Little Italy. More on this in a future post.

So if you're in the area of Laguna Beach, please stop by and check out the automotive work from some very talented artists. It's best to call ahead for open times. The "Gallery of Speed" is located at, 1590 South Coast Highway #3, Laguna Beach, CA., 1-949-637-7009.

Corvette Grand Sport

"Grand Sport"

In late 1962 Corvette was being developed into a car that would do battle with Shelby's Cobra. Bowtie fans and racers were ecstatic! However, the Cobra was about 1,000 pounds lighter. Zora Arkus-Duntov, father of the Corvette, and others at Chevrolet launched a plan of building 125 ultra light Corvettes called the Grand Sport. By building 125 cars, the Grand Sport would qualify as a GT production car under the international racing rules. In the end, the five Grand Sports weighed in at about 1,900 lbs., about 1,350 lbs. lighter than a stock Corvette coupe. Sadly, the General Motors front office stopped the program. When the cease and desist order came down, those five Grand Sports had already been completed and were to become collector cars after doing some track time. The Grand Sport pictured above was built by Superformance. Check their site out.

Now for my infomercial, I can print the image above on paper or metal any size that interests you. Give me a shout if you love the image and can't live without one. Contact me

Shelby GT350 Reborn...

Shown in this image here as a 24"x 36."
I've always wanted one, but never had one, and maybe this is my chance. The Venice crew is going to replicate the original run of the GT350! Yep, members of Carroll Shelby's original "Venice crew" have resumed production of the super cool "R-Model" of the Mustang GT350. This is coming with official approval from Carroll Shelby Licensing and the Ford Motor Company. They plan to make 36 to match the original production run, each revised to have independent rear suspension. You say, "That's not original", well it was tested in 1965 but not adopted. The new cars well come with a new front valance and redesigned Plexiglas rear window.

I'm sure the cost will give some nose-bleeds, me included. But, never fear if you always wanted one, but never got one like me. You can still have a Shelby GT350. It's a smaller size of 16"x 24" print on metal floated on a metal backing and it's awesome. This is printed in gloss and is numbered with an edition of only 30. A close up view of the image is below. The cost including shipping in the US is $595. So here's your chance to get a GT350!

The Man Cave

Your man cave can never have enough stuff in it! You know, really valuable stuff...stuff that only you and I can understand. Well, I guess that's the way it's been since the first car rolled down the dirt street. However, if you want to add something really-really cool to your cave, take a look at this! I've teamed up with Garage Graphics to produce super large wall art. It's a look at my 10'x 20' backlit new Ford GT image, life size! On a side note, I'm not sure if you know, but Ford GT's just took 1st and 2nd in class at the Daytona 24hrs. They are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 at 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. They have a 7-speed dual clutch transmission sending that power to the rear wheels. A cool car indeed! Now back to my infomercial, "But wait, there's more" could have this in your man cave or any other of my photo site images for that matter! And they are super easy to install. If you're interested contact Doug at Garage Graphics, they come in other sizes too and they don't need to be 10'x 20'. Please pass this along to any of your car buddies in case they are interested too.

Barrett-Jackson Rocked It!

A nine day show. When I tell people, they say, "You're crazy!" But in all honesty, it was a  blast. I got to meet past clients coming by my booth that have purchased from me before, and of course made many new friends, sending them away with one of my art pieces. So Barrett-Jackson rocked on I would say. Many thanks to just some of the buyers, Mitch, Richard, Craig, Michael, Bill, and Allen! Since, I have been busy boxing and shipping, ordering more metal for new prints to go out as I print them, it's been a busy time. Now that the dust is settling, I thought I would share a few photos of the happenings. And don't forget, forward this post to your car friends!

My 10'x 10' booth...

Richard with "Baja Cantina" and "Vintage 8". "Vintage 8 will be a 24"x 36" double float.

Craig with his new "Chief" double float.

Famed Cobra racer Allen Grant picked up a new print of the Ford GT.

Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

A new year brings a new adventure and opportunity for JohnStraubImageWorks. The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction traditionally starts off the auctions for the year, and it's said to be the "Super Bowl" of them all. This years will have 1,500 + cars crossing the auction block and also encompasses two weekends and the week in between with automobilia being auctioned off in the mornings, and cars during the rest of the day. Traditionally TV coverage starts midway though the week and ending the last weekend, so don't forget to tune in. It's an event not to be missed with exhibitors, major manufacturers (sponsors) displays being represented, and cool activities for all.

This takes us up to the info about my photography. I'll have a booth inside the large exhibitor Barrett Jackson tent. The booth is to be located along the wall opposite the food court area, which is good, because it keeps me away from the bad stuff! Now, here's an interesting fact, it's a nine day show, both Monique and I will be there manning the booth hoping to see you. Come by, say hi and check out some awesome photography. The "Best in the show" my alter ego says...

So, I'll raise "Three fingers of Jack" to you in the New Year, and wish you all the best for 2018!

Here's a link to the nine day show for times, TV times and activities. Click Barrett-Jackson.

And don't forget to pass this post on to all your car buddies!
